Promoting open communication – what is really going on inside your organization?
Our presentation will discuss factors employers should consider in promoting open communication and enhancing their whistleblower program. We will identify some common weaknesses of whistleblowing programs in Canada, and how internal auditors can assess the design and effectiveness of a whistleblowing program within their organizations. We have recently conducted a whistleblowing survey of some hospitals in Canada, as well as employee surveys at organizations to assess the effectiveness and to provide benchmarking opportunities for other organizations. From this information we are able to more acutely identify the challenges faced with ensuring staff feel like they have the ability to report concerns and making the process effective in dealing with workplace issues.
The aim of the presentation is to support internal auditors in understanding some of the key challenges organizations have experienced in supporting staff to feel like they can report concerns in the workplace, as well as leading practices organizations should consider. This will help internal auditors in being able to assess the design and effectiveness of processes within their organizations.
